Sometimes I wonder

if we’re all born with a fixed amount of love that we can dole out to any one person, and the more you love someone, the harder it is to really love whoever comes after.

Horse Feathers- Belly of June

A pleasant, earnest folk tune, “Belly of June” is from the upcoming Thistled Spring. Horse Feathers is a well-executed foray into multi-instrumental middle-American folk; the frontman hails from Idaho, though he settled in Oregon, as many artists are wont to do these days.

Wolf Parade- Ghost Pressure

A bit of a slow day, musically. Broken Social Scene has their new album out today, but I haven’t had the chance to check it out yet. For now, enjoy this generic-but-good rock ditty from Wolf Parade, fresh off the presses.

Treasure- Canada

I suppose you could technically call this chillwave or something, but I’m just thinking about the smooth rhythm here. This is just a really well-arranged song.

I can’t tell if this guy is happy about being “in Canada” or not.

The Books- Beautiful People

These guys are singular in my mind for being incredibly nerdy with their lyrics while at the same time being taking themselves completely seriously. Songs like this are the hymns of science.

I first heard these guys with their song “Smells Like Content,” which was slightly slower and more minimalist. I snagged “Beautiful People” from Pitchfork’s podcast, and it features reversed vocals, math-heavy lyrics, thick harmonies, and mechanical beats.

Obadiah Parker- Hey Ya

I’ve tried numerous times to post this song, and have consistently been stymied by the file format restrictions. But no more! I have found an MP3 version!

Quite possibly one of the best known covers of the Outkast hit, it’s pretty likely that many of you have heard this song before. Tough noogies.

Delorean- Come Wander

If you don’t know Delorean, it’s time you changed that. Think Animal Collective meets Crystal Castles. Almost as loopy, and more consistently danceable.

Fol Chen- In Ruins (Baths remix)

Remember “Hall,” that track by Baths I posted a bit back? Well apparently they did a remix of Fol Chen’s “In Ruins,” off of July 6th’s Part II: The New December, which is actually already available on Fol Chen’s site. Also featuring a remix on the EP is Keepaway, of “Yellow Wings” pseudo-fame.

Baths+Fol Chen= stuttering echo pop.

The Radio Dept.- This Time Around

You may recall a previous post of “Heaven’s On Fire” that I made several weeks back; the whole album, Clinging to a Scheme, is finally available. I’ve only briefly perused it so far, but I’d say it’s worth checking out if you liked “Heaven’s On Fire” (though that’s definitely the bet track on there still). At any rate, here’s another gem. The Radio Dept. definitely sounds like their roots, e.g. Nordic dream pop. There are a lot of electro leanings to this, and I’d have guessed they were an offshoot of the Bergen Wave movement (a la Royksopp and Kings of Convenience from Norway) if I hadn’t already heard they were Swedish.

Caribou- Hannibal

Some of you may recall I posted “Odessa” a while back, commenting on how much Caribou sounds like Erlend Oye. Well, he’s finally released Swim, with much fanfare. The album isn’t the sort that you can really listen to actively at any length, but it does lend itself to excellent background music for your day-to-day life. “Hannibal” is a bouncy electro tune with sparse lyrics and heavy-handed synth.
